Where Colour, Play and Circus Magic Take Over the Street

Circus Colours is a vibrant and joyful street spectacle that invites audiences of all ages into a world of imagination, play, and contemporary circus art. Performed by the Ukrainian Vuala Theatre, the show blends theatrical storytelling with dynamic circus techniques, creating a visually striking and emotionally engaging experience. Drawing inspiration from fairground traditions and modern cirque nouveau, the performance features acrobatics, juggling, artistic gymnastics, dance, and spectacular stilt-walking characters. Colourful costumes, shimmering scenography, smoke effects, and sparkling visual surprises transform public space into a magical playground filled with movement and rhythm.

A strong element of audience interaction—especially with children—turns the performance into a shared celebration. Games, dance, humour, and gentle satire unfold in a light, playful form that entertains while building a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Comedy scenes go far beyond a traditional circus show, combining physical theatre with charm and wit. Circus Colours is fast-paced, energetic, and full of surprises. Set to an uplifting musical soundtrack that blends classical references with popular melodies, the show has delighted audiences at international street theatre festivals, drawing large crowds and earning long applause.

A celebration of colour, creativity, and collective joy—Circus Colours proves that street theatre can be both spectacular and deeply engaging.

Energy, Humour and Circus Imagination on the Street Stage

Artists from Ukraine presented a circus show showcasing a cross-section of fairground and circus traditions, leading up to the art of cirque nouveau. The performance employed a variety of circus techniques: balancing acts, artistic gymnastics, and stilt dancing. Choreographically and visually engaging, the spectacle—enhanced by beautiful music—brought great joy to both children and adults. Ulica32. During the 36th International Theatre Festival “Walizka” in Łomża, the circus colours of the Ukrainian Vuala Theatre attracted an even larger audience at 7:00 p.m., numbering several hundred people. Nine actresses and actors presented a large-scale street performance combining elements of theatrical spectacle and circus show into a coherent whole, enriched with interactive moments involving young audiences. Artistic and distinctly fairground-inspired elements worked together perfectly, while circus tricks, stilt-walking, juggling, gymnastics, and acrobatic feats alternated with comedic scenes that went far beyond an ordinary circus show.

Colourful stilt-walking characters, circus fantasy, and playful interaction with the audience.

Almost every spectator was drawn into the performance “Circus Colours”—both children and adults alike. It became a shared celebration with the artists of the Lviv-based Vuala Theatre. In a light, humorous, yet dynamic and constantly surprising form, the audience could admire circus art in all its diversity and imagination. Some scenes delighted with dance, acrobatics, juggling, illusion, and comedy. Others transported viewers into a magical world filled with giant butterflies, instruments, and other colourful stilt-walking characters. The spectacle was enhanced by visual effects such as colourful smoke and a fountain of sparks.

Ukrainian artists delighted audiences with beautiful costumes and flawless acrobatics, juggling, and stilt dancing. They created a spectacle whose content perfectly reflects its title. Everything unfolded at a good pace, accompanied by music that built a positive atmosphere (with recognizable fragments of classical masterpieces and popular hits). Light, smoke, balloons, and shimmering elements of costumes and scenography—hallmarks of street theatre—were used with great mastery and awareness. It is therefore no surprise that the audience in Jelenia Góra rewarded the performers with long applause. 38th International Street Theatre Festival in Jelenia GóraUrszula Liksztet, Nowiny Jeleniogórskie

36th Ulica – International Street Theatre Festival – Kraków (6–9 July 2023).
This was probably the first time I had seen a street theatre ensemble composed entirely of women. Energetic young performers created a colourful spectacle centred on children’s games. Beach ball games with the audience, dancing with children, juggling, acrobatics, and stilt walking were combined with a playful satire of the “stereotypical mother figure” who cannot quite manage her children. Everything was presented in a light, humorous form and performed with great skill.

The evening on the market square is hard to put into words.

The Lviv-based VUALA Theatre delighted the audience with “Circus Colours.” It truly was a feast of joyful colours combined with comic scenes and displays of skill, all illustrated by lively, energetic music. Beautiful and imaginative costumes worn by the performers completed the experience.
